Towards Ancient Aenaria: Sailing to an Underwater City

Explore the submerged city of Aenaria in an exciting excursion that unveils archaeological finds and marine beauty in a 60-minute journey through the crystal-clear depths of the Bay of Ischia.

During the excursion, you will enjoy an immersive experience that begins with a 20-minute video projection. This film introduces the characteristics of marine structures and the techniques of underwater archaeological excavations. Afterwards, the group will head to the pier for embarkation on a mirror boat, always keeping Ischia Ponte as the starting point. While sailing along the bay, you will have the opportunity to admire the natural beauty of the seabed, such as the vast prairie of Posidonia oceanica, and scientific phenomena such as gaseous emissions, the subject of studies on ocean acidification. Once you reach the submerged archaeological site, you will be able to observe the harbour quay in formwork, stretches of ballast with wall structures and other architectural artefacts. This experience offers an extraordinary glimpse of what was once the extension of ancient Aenaria.
