Agnone
Middle land of arcane beauty, Molise is a treasure chest of nature and culture: not only mountains, hills and valleys but also villages to discover. Walking along sheep tracks, paths and alleys it is easy to see the signs left by ancient peoples. In historical times the Molise land was inhabited by the Samnites and the Romans, whose legacy is still present in many villages.
With this experience we want to give you a taste of the great beauty of Molise
The first stop will be the Di Nucci Dairy to immerse you in the steamy and fragrant atmosphere of the artisanal raw-milk cheese-making workshop of Alto Molise.
The Di Nucci family, originally from Capracotta, has been producing the typical cheeses of the transhumance civilization since 1662. The earliest recorded ancestor is Lonardo Di Nucci, already a shepherd and dairyman in the late 1600s. For ten generations the family dairy art has been handed down from father to son. So even today the Di Nucci family still makes spun-paste cheeses with the skillful ancient manual skill, guarded and practiced in the production facility in Agnone, in the heart of Alto Molise. A manual skill that can be recognized in the creation of artisanal cheeses, unique pieces that preserve ancient knowledge and essences of the territory and reflect a clean and sustainable production ethic.
Alto Molise has always been a land of pastures, of cattle, of sheep, of shepherds, of transhumance. The story of Capracotta, a small and quaint mountain town 1421 meters above sea level, is the story of this tradition and agro-pastoral culture, with all its myths and devotions. In the collective imagination of Capracottesi there is a multitude of flocks, horses, mules, cowherds, shepherds, masseurs and deep religious faith.
As the Matrice church constitutes a monument to the civilization of transhumance, so the little church of Our Lady of Loreto is the place of blessings, arrivals, hugs, goodbyes and painful departures along the grassy roads of the sheep-tracks, traversed by animals and transhumant shepherds. This is the world of the Di Nucci family's massari, who for many generations have served as tenants of transhumance farms, fewer and fewer arriving and more and more leaving for other territories.
The visit includes:
After the visit the group will be driver to the little village of Agnone to have free time and typical lunch.
At 4 p.m. the guide visit to the Marinelli Pontifical Bell Foundry is the oldest foundry in Italy and among the oldest in the world, specialising in the construction of bells.
The Pontificia Fonderia is the only one that has survived among the dynasties of Agnone's numerous bell founders, who have uninterruptedly handed down this ancient art from father to son for eight centuries. In fact, the Marinelli Museum houses a rare example of a Gothic bell that, according to tradition, was cast 1000 years ago in Agnone.
At 5 p.m. there will be the return to Naples in 2 hours.
